Wintertime Fun Indoors: Game Night
It’s winter and we’re all looking for fun, indoor things to do with family and friends. How about lighting the fireplace and breaking out a few board games? Here’s a list of classics along with some other ideas to avoid the cold on a fun-filled night indoors.
- The Classics: You can’t go wrong with classic games such as Monopoly, The Game of Life, Pictionary, Clue, Sorry, Uno, Balderdash, Taboo, or Scrabble. The best part? Odds are you won’t have to spend a dime on entertainment the whole night, because among all of your guests someone is sure to already own one or more of these.
- New Games to Try: While the classics are all great, it’s always fun to try something new. A deck of cards, for example, will buy you tons of games. Have each guest learn the rules to a new card game, and the group can try them all out. Here are just a few you could look up: Spoons, Crazy Eights, I Doubt It, and Euchre. Also try these other fun party games you can find at the store: Apples to Apples, Catch Phrase, Smarty Party, and Loaded Questions.
- Fun Food: Don’t forget about food to make your game night complete! Hosting a potluck will keep the cost down on food for your party—ask each guest to bring a snack, drink, or dessert for everyone. You can also provide some frugal finger foods for your guests to munch on during the games. These snacks aren’t too pricey and can stretch a long way: dips such as hummus, chip dip, and salsa; pinwheels or spirals (wraps cut into small slices); cupcakes, cookies, and brownies; popcorn; meatballs; salads.
